Spelling: Sort #14 More contractions Reading/Science: We will be learning about other regions in Georgia - Swamp/ Marsh and Ocean. Language Arts: We continue to learn about verbs - regular and irregular. Writing: We will be given another writing prompt this week. They did a GREAT job on their writing last week. Math: We start division. Division can be thought of in several ways: repeated subtraction, equal sharing, and equal grouping. We will learn that it is the inverse of multiplication. Events this week: Thursday: Class Party 12:30-1:30. Students are asked to bring a wrapped new chapter book for a book exchange. Please mark whether the book would be enjoyed more for a boy or a girl. Friday: Ford Foundation FuN Friday on December 18. Its theme is Holiday Dress Up. For a donation of $1 students could wear their favorite holiday attire (dress, jumpsuit, pajamas…) or accessories (hat, headband…) to school on Friday. Friday: Earth Parent lesson on soil and it's properties. Holiday Shopping began this Tuesday and continues through Thursday. Send in any money and information to help your child shop.
Spelling: Sort #13. Contractions. There is a spelling sort #13 on Spelling City, however they need to practice understanding how to change to a contraction. Homework will be worksheets for them to change words into contractions and vice versa. Math: We continue to work on subtraction with regrouping. Monday HW: page 175 & 176 Tuesday HW: page 177 ONLY Wednesday HW: Christmas word problems #1-6 Thursday HW: Christmas word problems #7-12 Social Studies: Frederick Douglass test on THURSDAY. Study guide went home over the weekend. There is a Quizlett attached to the 3rd Grade Resources tab for Frederick Douglass to study as well. Science: We continue regions of Georgia by learning the Swamp and Marsh region. Language Arts: We are writing a persuasive essay on why Santa should still give presents to someone who is not so good. They get to pick their "bad guy." These are characters from stories or movies (evil step moms from different fairy tales, Grinch, Ursula, Cruela-de-Vil, Count Olaph, etc.). This project has been segmented. Monday: Brainstorm bad guys. Tuesday: Pick a bad guy and draft Wednesday - Friday: Draft, prewrite and possible final. This Thursday and Friday Advanced Ed and STEM individuals will be coming around the building. Your child might be asked questions about what they do regarding STEM. We will be working on a project where we keep our Snowman cold using different materials. Media Center HOT CHOCOLATE on Wednesday this week.
