Ms. Hargrove was out on Monday, however things continued as usual. One change however was that we have taken out the tables and have moved to desks. This allows for students to have some individual space, but still lets us group them together for paired or group activities.
We are running low on tissues/Kleenex. If you have any to send in, we would appreciate it. Thank you.
Spelling: We are on spelling sort #19. These are past tense words that do no use an -ed ending. Example: sweep - swept.

Today we worked together to analyze a passage and find answers to the questions. They then completed one independently for a grade.
We will continue reading in our Science and Social Studies units.
Students received their Regions/Habitats grades from their test on Friday. They did very well. We will finish our rotation stations this week on animal adaptations.
Mary McLeod Bethune continues to be our focus. There are extra links on the blog for students who want to learn more about her.
Monday: Watched a video of an actor's portrayal of Ms. Bethune.
This week: We will be reading and answering questions about Mary Bethune.
We are continuing to learn about division, but within word problems. We also reinforced that it is an inverse operation of multiplication and that their are "fact families." Example: 2,3,6 because 2x3 = 6 , 3x2 = 6, 6\3 = 2 and 6\2 = 3 (I don't have access to a division sign - students are not taught it with the "\" sign).
On Tuesday we took an assessment on our division understanding.
Wednesday we will work in class with partners to do mixed word problems (mult and division) with extra information. Students are learning to break apart a problem to determine a method of solving it. Students sometimes assume that when you are learning a skills, like division, they don't read the word problems but just take the numbers and divide without reading. We are teaching them critical thinking.
Monday HW: page 275 & 276
Tuesday HW: page 281 & 282
Wednesday HW: Fact Family A
Thursday HW: Fact Family B
